Reflections on My Advocacy Video
for Ms. Tubong Tubong Festival
Today, I finally accepted something that’s been weighing on me: no matter how much thought and creativity I poured into our pageant advocacy video, not everyone will appreciate it — especially those who only value what’s easily understood or conventionally presented.
Some of my friends said the video didn’t really feel like an “advocacy winning piece.” It's unconventional. And I get it. The video I created was different. It wasn’t overly dramatic or sentimental — instead, it was practical, optimistic, and delivered with a creative lightness that felt authentic to me. Our entry might be the only one with uplifting, happy vibes — and maybe that’s why it stands out - for me.
I trusted the visual consistency — the colors, brightness, and pacing — along with the tone and message. I loved what I created. But I can’t help overthinking… wondering if the judges will see what I was trying to do. If they’ll get it.
I even had to explain it to a friend — walk him through my thought process just so he could understand the meaning behind it all. He didn’t question the cinematography, but it’s clear that meaning sometimes gets lost when it’s not spelled out, especially to people who dont care much about the technical aspect.
Despite that, I’m proud. I did something unique. I did my best to present an advocacy in a way that felt real and fresh. And even if people don’t fully get it — I’ll be grateful for the opportunity to create and be different.
I just hope Trizha won’t be upset if we don’t win. I changed her original advocacy direction, trusting my instincts. But whether or not we get recognized, I know we made something that stood out — and that means something, too.
