The Burden of Fundraising: Reflecting on Solicitations Towards My Uncle
Navigating the Challenges of Generosity and Wealth
Tonight, my mom and aunt discussed people asking my cousin and uncle for money, which is quite frequent every fundraising. Understanding the amounts involved and how these individuals entice others into asking for funds, I found myself contemplating this issue.
People Overestimate Those with Money
They believe that money comes easily to people like my uncle and cousin because they've seen them buy things that are out of reach for others. As a result, they assume they can demand a certain amount because these individuals have the money.
I personally know that my uncle is rich and has numerous investments. However, upon closer inspection, I see the effort and sacrifices he has made. And don't forget his loans and other liabilities he has but his simple lifestyle and kind nature make people want to take advantage of his generosity.
This led me to think that being kind and wealthy makes you susceptible to solicitations and crowdfunding for causes that don't even align with your values. You could become a target because of your proximity or relationship, and they know you will give generously regardless of the cost.
In the future, I plan to play a game of hiding what I have and sarcastically revealing it when boasting, to make them think I am joking.
Overall, you might believe that rich people make money easily, but we should consider the sacrifices they made long ago before reaching this point in life.
Sometimes crowdfunding isn't about a genuine cause or its stated goals; it's a way to fund something that ultimately benefits personal interests at the end. Before contributing, it's essential to understand how the money will be used and the strategies used to acquire these funds. The way they ask can provide insight into their intentions, whether good or dubious.
Crowdfunding doesn't always yield a ROI.
