Friendship After College
How time and distance affect connection
How time and distance change (and don't change) the people we care about
Right now, our college group chat is slowly fading into silence.
It feels like a ghost town—memories still there, but not much life left in them.
Everything’s changing.
But one thing hasn’t changed:
My friends from church.
I see them every Sunday, and that keeps me grounded.
Even though I’m less social now—I mostly stay home—I haven’t lost my ability to connect.
Someone once told me:
“Even if you don’t talk to your friends for a long time, when you meet again, things will feel the same.”
That stuck with me.
But I’ve also realized… that’s not always true.
Two things can happen:
You either spark a deep reconnection, or… things feel distant. Cold.
I hope, for me, it’s the first.
This Sunday, one of our old church friend came back after three years in Canada.
He looked different.
He remembered our inside jokes.
But he felt… slightly off. A bit distant.
Still, it was him.
Just with a few new layers.
That interaction reminded me:
Things might not be exactly the same—but if we’re authentic and true to ourselves, friendships don’t disappear.
They just evolve.
