My First Fully Funded Film Project
Reflecting on a fully funded film project, the beauty of unexpected moments, and finding hope in people's stories.
My first fully funded film project—and guess what? It feels good.
For once, I wasn't carrying everything on my shoulders. People helped with coordination, food, and transportation; people gave suggestions, and all I really had to do was lay down the foundational rules for the concept and let everything flow from there, paid.
What surprised me most was that the final result wasn't exactly what I had originally planned or visualized. And honestly, I'm thankful for that. The shoot unfolded organically. There were imperfections in the frame, unexpected moments, and little things that couldn't have been planned. Those imperfections gave the video life and made it feel real, while keeping the rules intact.
This project reminded me that sometimes the best thing you can do is create the conditions and let events unfold naturally.
Going back to the opportunity itself, thank you for trusting Elly. Thank you to [names of people] and everyone who helped make this project possible. Creative freedom and trusting who you hired hits different. Thank you for the support, the coordination, the ideas, and the shared moments throughout the process. I felt no pressure; it was just like a fun side project, but delegated.
And no, I don't think I'll be pursuing this as a career. 😆 But as we say, "pang taktak kalawang"—a good way to shake off the rust and challenge myself again to stand on what I believe is the best way to deliver this.
To everyone involved, thank you. This was an amazing experience, and I'm grateful to have shared it with all of you.
Amazing. Grateful. Thankful.
Along the way, I saw more signs that our motherland is full of hope.
I met incredibly hospitable people, resilient people, and people who have lived through hardships so difficult that I could only listen in amazement as they shared their survival stories. I met people who carry lessons from the past and who genuinely do not want the same mistakes to happen again.
Beyond the project itself, these conversations and shared moments left a mark on me.
This experience gave me another reason to be optimistic. It reminded me that the future can be bright, not because life is easy, but because people continue to learn, adapt, help one another, and move forward despite everything.
Perhaps life was never meant to be only about struggle. Perhaps it is also about learning, growing, and discovering hope in places and people you least expect.
Thank you, everyone, for letting me be part of your stories.
