Be Cautious: Avoid Overconfidence to Stay Healthy
How Overconfidence in Health Decisions Led to Illness
September 28, 0029
Today I woke up late and wasn’t feeling well. Let’s go back in time to what happened yesterday.
I traveled back home at noon. It was too hot, and when I arrived in my town, it was raining. I didn’t use an umbrella; I just trusted my instincts and went to a high school to work on a video project with Gerard. We worked until 6 PM and then went home.
My dinner was bean soup with vegetables and unheated plant-based meat. I went to bed at 11 PM and woke up at 5 AM for a selfie challenge. My sleep wasn’t great—it was cold.
I woke up at 9 AM feeling strange. It was a bad feeling, like the food I ate last night hadn’t been digested properly. I felt bloated and like I was going to regurgitate. I could still taste the cold, unheated plant-based meat I greedily ate last night. After a while, I did throw up. This afternoon, I felt sick, but luckily, my mom was there to help.
Lesson learned: Even if you trust your instincts, listen to others—they might be right, even if you feel sure of yourself for illogical reasons. Step back, reheat unpackaged food, don’t stay under the sun for too long, and don’t be overly confident.
