Reflections on Love, Life, and Sex
A Valentine's Day Conversation on Love and Parenthood
Today, I had an interesting conversation with my teammates during my internship. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, we naturally started talking about love, but as the discussion went on, it took a deeper turn—eventually leading to the topic of having children.
One of my teammates shared that her sister decided to have a baby on Valentine’s Day. Now, her sister's life has changed drastically, as she is raising a child. Despite the challenges, her sister has been open about her experiences, sharing both the joys and struggles of motherhood. My teammate mentioned that although life is financially tough, her sister's partner has stepped up—despite his "bad boy" appearance, he is kind, supportive, and even enjoys cooking for them.
The Reality of Raising a Child
What really caught my attention was how neutral and understanding my teammate remained when discussing her sister's situation. She supported her sister’s choices and simply gave her perspective rather than imposing her own beliefs. At one point, she had told her sister that raising a child is expensive and requires a lot of responsibility—so if she wasn’t ready, abortion could be an option.
However, she also reminded her that life is precious and that having a child is a serious commitment. Most importantly, she advised her sister never to treat her child as a retirement plan, emphasizing the importance of raising kids with love rather than obligation.
An Open Conversation About Sex
Later, We had another conversation with a different teammate, and the topic shifted to sex. She openly shared that she lost her virginity at 17 and has been in a loving relationship for seven years. This was only the second time I had ever asked a woman about sex, and I was surprised by how comfortably she talked about it—treating it like a normal part of life.
She mentioned that her parents, who are from the northern part of the Philippines, are surprisingly open-minded about sex. Even though she and her boyfriend are intimate often, her parents understand and even encourage them to enjoy their relationship. In fact, they are already looking forward to having grandchildren!
The Emotional and Physical Experience of Intimacy
She also shared intimate details about her experience—how she prepares for sex, the emotions it brings, and how, after the first few times, she found herself wanting to experience that connection again. She described the pleasure as something unique and emotional, not just physical.
My Thoughts on Love, Sex, and Waiting for "The One"
Hearing these stories made me reflect on my own thoughts about love and intimacy. I’ve always been curious about the feelings people describe during sex, but I remain skeptical since I haven’t experienced it myself. My teammates assumed I had, but I haven’t had a girlfriend yet. And if I ever do have sex, I want it to be with someone I truly love—not just for the sake of doing it.
We all agreed that making love with someone you genuinely care about is more fulfilling than just having a casual encounter. For me, I’m still searching for "the one," and when that time comes, I hope to experience those emotions that everyone talks about.
Final Thoughts: Learning from Others’ Experiences
Reflecting on these conversations, I’ve come to appreciate the responsibility that comes with intimacy. Listening to different perspectives helps me understand not just the act itself, but also the deeper emotional and life-changing effects it can have.
Thanks for the insights, friends. It was an eye-opening discussion!
